Stokewell Counseling is committed to providing accessible and affirming therapy to children, teens and adults in North Carolina.

We are primarily a fee for service practice which means, you pay for counseling services and we work for YOU. No waiting for the insurance company's approval. No limitations by insurance on the delivery of your treatment.

If appropriate, we will provide a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) which is an estimate of the overall cost of your treatment. We can also provide an invoice or superbill for you to submit and be reimbursed directly from your insurance company.

Below is our fee schedule and an overview of our process:

Initial Consultation
Fee: Free
What to Expect: We’ll meet for about 15-minutes to determine if Stokewell is a good fit for you (or your child) and your therapy goals.

Initial Assessment
Fee: $175
What to Expect: We’ll dive deep into your experiences, pain points and goals in a 75-minute session.

Regular Session
Fee: $150
What to Expect: Regular sessions for adults are about 55 minutes. Regular sessions for adolescents and children are adjusted to meet their developmental level.

Depending on your health insurance provider and plan, counseling services may be covered or reimbursed. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan reimburses for psychotherapy services.

A few questions to ask your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:
• Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
• Do I have out of network coverage? Are there specific providers I must use?
• Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
• Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
• Do I need a written approval/referral from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

Understand that using insurance for therapy has significant implications that may include but are not limited to:
• Increased access to your personal health information
• A diagnosis requirement which becomes a part of your permanent health record
• Limitations on coverage for services that are not medically necessary as determined by the insurance company
• Limitations on the length and frequency of service
• Limitations on the mode of service - Walk & Talk, Outdoor Play, and Teletherapy may not be covered

Does my North Carolina therapist take insurance?

Stokewell is committed to broadening access to quality mental health care, particularly for marginalized populations in geographically isolated areas. In that effort, we've partnered with Headway, an insurance billing service that connects clients who want to use health insurance with qualified counselors. Through Headway, we currently accept several insurance plans.
